cancertrials.be clinical trial search platform — Version 1.0, effective 5 August 2026
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the clinical trial search platform at cancertrials.be (the “Platform”). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
The Platform is published by the Belgian Society of Medical Oncology – BSMO vzw (“BSMO”, “we”, “us”), Nijverheidsstraat 24 / Rue de l’Industrie 24, 1040 Brussels, Belgium, enterprise number BE 0836.381.708. The Platform and its search engine are operated on our behalf by Esperity bv.
The Platform is intended for use by physicians and other healthcare professionals for the purpose of identifying potentially relevant oncology clinical trials. By using it, you confirm that you are a healthcare professional (or are acting under the supervision of one) and that you will use the Platform in your professional capacity.
The Platform lets you search for clinical trials by selecting cancer categories or filters, by pasting free text describing a clinical situation, or by uploading a medical report. Where you paste text or upload a document, your browser processes the content locally on your device, removes direct identifiers and extracts the medical criteria used to run the search. Only those de-identified criteria are sent to the search engine, which returns matching trials. We do not require you to register an account or provide your name to run a search.
The Platform provides information to support clinical decision-making; it does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for professional judgment. Search results are informational only. Trial eligibility, suitability and any treatment decision remain the sole responsibility of the treating healthcare professional, who must independently verify all information against the trial’s official protocol, the sponsor and the relevant trial registry before relying on it.
Because content you paste or upload is anonymized within your browser and is not transmitted to us, you are responsible for how you handle that content on your device. In particular, you agree that:
We take care to present trial information usefully, but we do not warrant that results are complete, current, error-free or applicable to any particular patient. Clinical trial data originates from third-party sources and registries and may change. The Platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. It may be a staging, test or evolving environment, and access, features and content may change, be suspended or be discontinued at any time without notice.
You agree not to:
The Platform, including its design, software, text, and the arrangement and presentation of trial information, is protected by intellectual property rights owned by or licensed to BSMO and Esperity. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Platform for its intended professional purpose. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute or create derivative works from the Platform without our prior written consent. Clinical trial data remains subject to the rights of its respective sources.
The Platform may link to third-party websites, such as trial registries and sponsor pages. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy or availability of those third-party resources. You should review their own terms and privacy notices.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BSMO and Esperity are not liable for any clinical decision made on the basis of the Platform, nor for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damage, loss of data, or loss arising from the use of, or inability to use, the Platform or from reliance on its results. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by gross negligence or intentional fault.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BSMO and Esperity against claims, damages and costs arising from your breach of these Terms or from your handling of patient data in connection with the Platform.
Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version and effective date at the top indicate when they were last revised. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
These Terms are governed by Belgian law. Any dispute relating to the Platform or these Terms falls within the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Brussels, Belgium, without prejudice to any mandatory rights you may have under applicable law.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to BSMO at administration@bsmo.be.
