cancertrials.be clinical trial search platform — Version 1.0, effective 5 August 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how the clinical trial search platform at cancertrials.be (the “Platform”) uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. The Platform is published by the Belgian Society of Medical Oncology – BSMO vzw (“BSMO”, “we”, “us”) and operated on our behalf by Esperity bv.
In short: we use only strictly necessary / functional cookies and Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics. We do not use advertising, marketing or profiling cookies, and we do not sell your data.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to work, remember your preferences, and understand how it is used. Similar technologies (such as local storage or pixels) work in comparable ways; in this Policy we refer to all of them as “cookies”.
We use two categories of cookies: strictly necessary / functional cookies that make the Platform work, and analytics cookies (Google Analytics) that help us understand usage. We do not use marketing or advertising cookies.
| Cookie / provider | Purpose | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Functional cookies (cancertrials.be) | Enable core features such as page navigation, security, session integrity and remembering your cookie choices. | Strictly necessary / functional — always active. | Session to 12 months |
| Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*, _gid) | Measure how the Platform is used (pages viewed, searches run, approximate location, device/browser) so we can improve it. Statistics are aggregated. | Analytics — set only with your consent. | Up to 24 months |
Exact cookie names and durations can vary as the Platform and Google Analytics evolve; the consent banner reflects the current list.
We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to collect anonymous statistics about how the Platform is used. This helps us see which features are useful and where to improve. We configure Google Analytics to limit the data collected and do not use it for advertising. Google processes this data as our processor; depending on configuration, some data may be processed outside the EEA under appropriate safeguards (see the Privacy Policy). You can learn more in Google’s own privacy information and opt out using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Strictly necessary / functional cookies are required for the Platform to work and are always active. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are only set if you accept them. When you first visit the Platform, a cookie banner lets you accept or refuse analytics cookies, and you can change your choice at any time via the cookie settings link on the Platform.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings — for example to delete existing cookies or block new ones. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Platform from working.
Refusing analytics cookies does not affect your ability to search for trials.
No advertising, marketing or cross-site tracking cookies are used on the Platform.
Cookies are not used to process the medical information you paste or upload. As explained in the Privacy Policy, that content is anonymized within your browser and is not transmitted to us; cookies play no role in it.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The version and effective date at the top indicate when it was last revised. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform.
